Our seas are in danger. The present levels of pollution in the UK and around the world are unprecedented. Human activity on land is a key factor contributing to the escalating global marine pollution, which has increased by 23% in the last 5 years (DEFRA, 2025). We need to act now to save our seas.
This work in progress project is about sea pollutants. Its title ‘Unfixed’ is a reflection on the state of the problem as well as the methods I use in the making of this work.
With 'Unfixed', I seek to reveal what is hidden and make the chemical pollutants visible with help of photography.

Anna Sellen
Anna Sellen is a photographic artist based on the west coast of Wales.
Her work straddles conceptual and documentary photography with focus on themes relating to the natural landscape, climate change and personal histories. Her projects begin in analogue and digital photography but often expand to other disciplines including video, sound, installation and text to create multidisciplinary award-winning work.
Her environmental artwork draws on her local case studies and wider research to link to the global ecological situation. In search for a deeper connection with her subject, she often immerses herself in the hands-on action, be it beekeeping or volunteering for an environmental project. She is interested in the power of human actions to change our landscapes and reshape our environment and how we can re-imagine our active agency to protect and value our reciprocal relationship with nature.
Her work exhibited internationally and won awards, including a portfolio award at FORMAT 2021, an RBSA photo prize in 2023 and Sidney Nolan Trust Prize at Earth Photo 2023. In 2023, she was nominated and shortlisted for New Blood Emerging Art prize, that culminated in an exhibition at Saatchi Gallery, UK.
